Chapter 5: How Can I Protect Myself?
âThe spiritual is the LIFE; the mental is the BUILDER; the physical is the RESULT.â â Edgar Cayce
The bible says to âfix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternalâ 2 Corinthians 4:18. What is unseen is the spiritual life that we have or can have if we choose to have it. We are given signs of heaven on earth and given signs of hell on earth and are given a chance to choose one or the other. Before awakening to the truth of my narcissistic abuse, I suffered from new age naivete. I believed that we are all good at our core. I wasnât sure that evil really existed and thought that people who were labeled as âevilâ were really just the victims of hyper-religious zealots and simply misunderstood. I thought that if you showed people enough love and empathy and understanding, they could change because they really wanted to change deep down inside. I had read and studied a lot about shadow psychology and how we have to embrace our shadow sides so that we donât project them onto others. Therefore, I felt that if we believed that evil existed outside of us, then it certainly existed inside of us, perhaps at a repressed level.
Now, I know that evil does exist in the world and that we must always make a choice to choose good over evil whether in the world or within ourselves. I still believe in some things that are labelled ânew ageâ such as the spiritual law of attraction. I think that you attract things to you based on the signal you put out to the universe. However, I think that other spiritual laws are at play too such as the spiritual law of karma. I also believe in reincarnation even though I am a Christian and most Christians donât believe in reincarnation or at least wonât admit to believing in it. I am no longer so naïve as to believe that if I just think, feel and believe that I will be a billionaire, that money will start pouring into my life. I think that itâs possible that the law of attraction wonât help me become a billionaire at all if other more basic spiritual laws are at play. For example, if I spent lifetimes cheating people and stealing from them, perhaps, I need to spend a lifetime or more paying off that karmic debt by experiencing poverty or having people steal from me.
But I do believe that the law of attraction is important to try to change the signal that you are putting out to the universe as part of the recovery process from narcissistic abuse. Make sure no signals such as âIâm here to abuseâ or âIâm not worthy of good thingsâ or âIâm a victimâ or any form of âIâm not confidentâ are being put out into the world.
